The short answer
On a Magic Clean washing machine, a drum left full of water is most often a pump impeller jammed or worn rather than a pump filter clogged with debris. The mechanical and blockage causes come first on a contract-built machine: there is less on the board to go wrong than in the water path. All three checks below are owner work, and not one of them needs a part.
What you are seeing
- It drains on some programmes and not others — That pattern points at the programme rather than at the pump.
- Complete silence where the drain should be — Silence points at the control and the door lock rather than at a blockage.
- The door will not unlock while water remains — Most machines refuse to unlock with water in, which is a safety interlock working correctly.
- NEAR MISS — water on the floor rather than in the drum — Water outside the machine is a leak, and the leak page covers it.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- A pump impeller jammed or worn — A fragment of glass, a hair grip or a plastic tag gets past the filter and stops the impeller dead. The pump then hums under load and moves nothing, which is the sound owners describe as straining. It leads because a hum with no water moving has very few other explanations on this machine. These sit in apartments and rentals, often on a floor that was never levelled for them.
- A drain hose kinked, trapped or pushed too far into the standpipe — A hose flattened between the machine and the wall, or pushed so far down the standpipe that the machine siphons, stops the water leaving. It usually starts on the day the machine was last moved. It sits here because it is found by hand in a minute, without moving anything heavy.
- A pump filter clogged with debris — The filter at the bottom front catches everything the drum lets through: coins, hair, tissue and grit. Full, it blocks the pump inlet and the machine cannot move water no matter how hard it tries. It is last only because the filter was cleared recently.
What to check first, second, third
- Listen at the machine during the drain phase — A hum with nothing moving is a jammed impeller; silence is not. First, because it is the likeliest to end the job.
- Feel along the hose where it passes behind the machine — A flattened hose is easy to feel and almost impossible to see. Second, once that is clean.
- Open the filter flap at the bottom front, with a tray ready — Debris in the filter is visible at once and it is the likeliest single answer. Third, and by now the answer is usually in hand.

- Clear the filter, then turn the impeller by hand if it is reachable — Unplugged, glove on. Stop if it will not come free.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Put a tray and towels under the filter before opening it: a full drum empties through that opening faster than you can catch it.
The line between a fix and a call
The line is the front panel. The filter, the hose, the standpipe and the door are yours; the pump itself, the pressure system and the control are not. A blocked household waste line is a plumber rather than an appliance call. On this brand generic assemblies shared across several nameplates, so a part is usually available but rarely branded.
