What this usually is
On a Magic Clean dishwasher, a machine that will not begin is most often a door catch that is not confirming closed rather than a door switch that has worn out. The mechanical and blockage causes come first on a contract-built machine: there is less on the board to go wrong than in the water path. All three checks below are owner work, and not one of them needs a part.
The symptoms, and the ones that mean something else
- A key or delay symbol on the display — The machine is telling you it has been set to wait.
- Lit up but nothing happens on start — Power is fine, so the machine is refusing rather than failing.
- It became intermittent before it stopped entirely — Intermittent before absolute is the signature of a switch wearing out.
- NEAR MISS — it runs but leaves water in the tub — Reaching the end with water in is a drainage fault.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- A door catch that is not confirming closed — No dishwasher will run until the latch reports the door shut. A worn catch, a door that has dropped, or a basket edge standing proud leaves the machine lit and waiting. It leads because this door is latched on every cycle and the catch is the part that wears first. These sit in apartments and rentals, often on a floor that was never levelled for them.
- Water not arriving, so the cycle never begins — The machine fills before it does anything visible. A closed isolating valve under the sink, a kinked fill hose or a silted inlet screen leaves it waiting indefinitely with everything lit. It ranks here because the valve and the screen are checked in a couple of minutes.
- A door switch that has worn out — The switch behind the catch is a mechanical part. Worn, it stops making contact even with the door properly shut, and the machine waits with no fault shown at all. It is last because it needs a part and the free checks come first.
The order to check in
- Close the door firmly and listen for a solid click — No click means no cycle, on every machine of this kind. First, because it is the likeliest to end the job.
- Check the valve under the sink is open and the hose is not kinked — Then check the inlet screen at the valve end for grit. Second, once that is clean.
- Note whether it was intermittent before it stopped — A gradual decline into a dead machine is a switch wearing out. Third, and by now the answer is usually in hand.

Supply, door, valve and settings are all owner work and cost nothing but a few minutes.
