The short answer first
On a Kuch refrigerator, running without cooling is usually blocked airflow from a frosted evaporator rather than a failed compressor. Air stops moving, the cabinet warms while the unit runs, and the machinery is fine. Most of the causes below are owner-checkable in minutes; only the last needs a technician.
Symptoms, including the misleading ones
- The interior light stays on when the door is shut — Check by pressing the door switch. A light left burning adds heat to a cabinet that is already struggling.
- Food in the door spoils before food at the back — The door is the warmest place in any cabinet, so it fails first when the whole cabinet is drifting warm.
- The freezer is cold but the fresh-food side is not — Cold is being made. Something is stopping it from getting where it is needed, which narrows the list sharply.
- NEAR MISS — only the icemaker has stopped, the food is cold — If the cabinet holds temperature and only the ice has stopped, this is an ice-production fault and a different page covers it.
The causes in order of likelihood
- Blocked airflow from a frosted evaporator — Cold air is the delivery mechanism in a refrigerator, and the evaporator is where it is made. Ice over that coil does not stop the cold being produced; it stops it being moved, which is why the freezer can stay cold while the fresh-food side warms. It heads the list because it is the failure this class shows first, and the one an owner can settle without opening anything. On a badge this size the parts channel is thin, so the ranking is written around what can be checked and corrected without a part on order.
- Dirty condenser coil or no clearance around the cabinet — Every refrigerator is a heat pump, and a heat pump that cannot reject its heat cannot make cold. A blanket of dust on the condenser is exactly that failure, expressed in the cheapest possible way. Next in order: it explains a smaller share of these faults but is quick to confirm once the first is clean.
- A gasket that no longer seals, or a shelf keeping the door ajar — The door is the only part of the insulation that moves, so it is the only part that wears. A gasket that has hardened lets a steady stream of warm humid air into a cabinet designed to exclude it. Third, and only worth attention once the two above are clean.
- Compressor, start device or the sealed circuit itself — A sealed-system fault shows itself in ways the others do not — a compressor that runs continuously and stays barely warm, an evaporator that ices in one corner only, or oil where there should be none. At the foot of the list, on likelihood alone.
The order to check in
- Take out the freezer drawer or baskets and look at the rear panel — Frost on the panel, or ice visible through its vents, is the answer. A light dusting is normal; a solid sheet is not. First: the answer here changes everything you do next.
- Feel the air coming out at the base grille while it is running — Warm exhaust that has nowhere to go, or none at all, tells you which half of this cause you have. Then this — it is the next cheapest thing that can be wrong.
- Shut the door on a sheet of paper and pull, at several points around the frame — Paper that slides out freely anywhere shows you where the seal is leaking. Third, and only if the two above found nothing.
What an owner can safely check
- Clear the freezer vents and check the rear panel for a frost sheet — Unpack the freezer down to the back wall so the air paths are actually visible.
About 20 min
- Vacuum the condenser coil and the fan grille, then restore the clearance — Give it the gap the manual asks for at the back and the sides before pushing it home again.
Tools: vacuum, soft brushAbout 25 min
- Unload the door shelves and repack so nothing holds the door open — Then watch the door close on its own from half open — it should pull itself shut.
About 15 min
- STOP when the next thing to move is a fixing rather than a cover — Anything held by fasteners is holding something in place for a reason. Write down what you found and leave it there.
The part that is not optional
Safety
Pull the plug or turn off the breaker first; a panel that comes off with power on is a panel with live terminals behind it. Move the cabinet with the doors taped shut and take the weight with two people — a loaded cabinet is far heavier than it looks, and a tipped one lands on whoever is beside it.
Where the owner fix ends
Call when the free checks are done and the cabinet still drifts warm, or the moment you see oil at the compressor. Until then, every step on this page is reversible and costs nothing — which is exactly why they come first.

What this page leaves out
Read this as the class-level answer. If a page exists for your particular Kuch line, that page is more specific and more useful for your unit, and it carries the model detail this one cannot: fastener sizes, component positions and service sequences.
