The short answer first
A leaking KovaSelect refrigerator is telling you where its water is going rather than that something has burst. Begin with ice building up around the fill tube and melting, then work down. If the water is clean, cold and continuous, jump straight to the supply checks and shut the valve.

Causes on a KovaSelect refrigerator, likeliest first
- Ice building up around the fill tube and melting — It belongs on the list because the evidence is inside the freezer and easy to see once you know to look there, and because the remedy starts with switching the icemaker off. It comes first for a practical reason: the check takes minutes and it decides which half of this list you need. - A defrost drain line packed with ice or debris — Every frost-free refrigerator melts its evaporator frost on a schedule and drains the water through a small tube to a pan above the compressor. That tube is narrow, cold and easily blocked by food debris or by ice forming in its own mouth. Once it blocks, the water goes wherever gravity takes it. Second, and the last of the causes that a careful look will settle on its own.
- A compression fitting or filter head weeping — This cause is the one with real consequences for the room rather than for the appliance, which is why it is worth identifying early even though it is less common than a blocked drain. Third in the order: less common than what precedes it, and more work to confirm.
- Warm humid air meeting cold surfaces inside — A gasket that has stopped sealing turns the cabinet into a condenser: warm room air meets cold surfaces inside, gives up its moisture, and that water runs down the liner and out at the door. At the foot of the list, on likelihood alone.
Where to look, and in what order
- Watch a fill cycle and see whether the water lands in the mould — A tube nudged out of line during cleaning sprays across the mould instead of into it. Do this first: it settles the likeliest cause before any tool comes out.
- Look for ice on the freezer floor and find the drain opening below it — Ice sitting over the drain hole is a direct answer and needs no further diagnosis. Second in order, and only worth doing once the first has come back clean.
- Dry the floor behind the cabinet and put down kitchen paper for an hour — Paper shows you exactly which fitting is wet, which no amount of looking with a torch will. Only worth doing once the two above are ruled out.

- Switch the icemaker off and let the ice around the tube melt — Put towels down; this releases more water than owners expect.

Safety
Unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never chip ice off a coil or a liner with a knife or a screwdriver: the tubing behind it is thin, and puncturing it releases the charge and ends the life of the cabinet. Let ice melt on its own.
The line between a fix and a call
Call when the drain will not clear, when a fitting weeps under pressure, or when water returns after everything above has been done. Close the water shutoff first in any case: it costs nothing and it protects the floor while you wait.
