The short answer
A small Kinetheme beverage cabinet that runs but never gets properly cold is usually being asked for more than it has: a warm room, sunlight, a door opened often, or a load put in warm. These cabinets hold little cooling in reserve. Work down the checks below before assuming a fault at all. Because these usually stand in a tight spot, the space around the unit is worth checking before anything inside it.
What you observe
- The cabinet is warm but you can hear it running — The unit is working and achieving nothing.
- It never switches off — The same fault from the other side, and harder on the compressor than normal cycling.
- NEAR MISS — silent, and nothing is cold — That is a supply or start fault and belongs on the page for a unit that will not start.
Causes, most likely first on a Kinetheme refrigerator
- Ambient heat and load beyond its capacity — Id: ambient — Room heat and a load put in warm are not a fault, they are a limit: the unit can only move so much heat, and a hot corner or a full shelf of warm bottles uses all of it. It ranks first because the cooling in hand is small: a case of warm drinks takes most of a day to pull down, and that is normal behaviour.
- Condenser coil cannot shed its heat — Id: condenser — Second: the coil is where the heat pulled out of the box is meant to go. Choked with dust, or pressed against a wall with no air moving past it, that heat stays in the room and comes straight back in. It moves up a place here because these units are installed where space is short, and short space is exactly what this fault needs.
- Sealed system or compressor fault — Id: sealed — Last, and the reason the order matters: when the refrigerant circuit leaks or the compressor stops pumping, everything looks normal and nothing gets cold. It is rare, it is the one fault an owner cannot touch, and it is why the cheap checks come first. It decides the outcome rather than the repair: on a cabinet this size the sealed-system job is usually worth more than the cabinet.
Check in this order, and why
- Look at the room, the sun and what went in warm — Placement and load show up here before anything internal does. It comes first because the cause it tests is the one ranked first above.
- Find the condenser and feel whether it is hot and clean — Warm and clean is right; furred is the finding. It follows because the cause it tests is the one ranked second above.
- Feel the cabinet sides and look for oil at the compressor — Only worth doing once everything above is clean. It follows because the cause it tests is the one ranked third above.
What an owner can safely check
- Shut the door on a banknote and try to pull it out, all the way round — Anywhere it comes away freely is a place warm air is getting in.
About 10 min
- Restore the clearance the manual asks for and retest — Pull it out, leave the gap, and give it a day before judging.
About 25 min
- Do a full manual defrost with everything out and the doors open — Cooling that returns and then fails again in days names the defrost system.
About 45 min
- STOP HERE if the next step needs a meter on live terminals or the sealed system — That is where owner checks end: refrigerant work is licensed work.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Attempt nothing on the sealed system: it is under pressure and the work is licensed. Leave the door switch wired as it is; it cuts the fan for a reason. A tall cabinet is heavy and top-loaded, so get help before pulling one out.
When to call a technician
Call once placement, load, door and coil are clean and the cabinet is still warm — and ask for the diagnosis before the repair. On a cabinet this size a sealed-system repair often costs more than the cabinet, and that decision is yours with the fault named. Parts come from the seller, and availability follows how recently the listing was active.

What this page does not cover
This page covers Kinetheme refrigerators as a class, not one family or model line. Where a family- or model-specific page exists for your unit, that page is the more specific answer. Not here: wiring colours, board part numbers and charge figures. It is small beverage cabinets sold online, standing on a floor or a counter rather than built into a run.
