The short answer
F47 names the user interface or touchpad together with the cooktop power control board, or the wiring between them. Both ends of the chain are in scope, which means the honest owner-side work is about narrowing rather than fixing: what still responds, and what still heats. Work down the diagnostic order before anything comes apart; the ranking is the part of this page worth the most.
Error codes
Reference| Code | Meaning |
|---|---|
| F47 | There may be a problem with the Cooktop Power Control Board, the User Interface (Touchpad), or the associated wiring. |
What you observe, and what to record
- The panel responds and nothing heats — Which puts the fault at the power end of the chain.
- Whether the code is steady or intermittent — A fault that is present every time is far quicker to find than one that comes and goes, and the two are diagnosed differently.
- Whether the display shows anything besides the code — A second code, a flashing indicator or a missing segment is information the code number alone does not carry.
Causes, most likely first on this cooktop
- A connector between the interface and the power board — First, because it is the cheapest cause, it explains every symptom above, and it lives where thermal cycling is worst.
- A failure on the power control board — Second: it carries the full current of every zone, and its switching devices and terminals are the hardest-worked parts in the cooktop.
- The touchpad or its interface board — Third: genuine, and identified by a panel that does not respond while the zones are capable.
Check in this order, and why
- Establish whether the panel responds at all — Response but no heat, or no response — this is the fork the whole diagnosis turns on.
- Map every zone at low and high power — A pattern across zones points at the power board.
- Cut power for a minute and see what returns — Separates a latched state from a standing fault.
What an owner can safely check
- Try every key and note which respond — Half the diagnosis and it costs nothing.
About 10 min
- Keep a short log of when the code appears — Date, what the cooktop was doing, and how long it had been running. Two entries make a pattern; one does not.
About 5 min
- Note which functions still work and which do not — Go through them deliberately rather than from memory. The list of what works is the fastest diagnostic information there is.
About 15 min
- STOP HERE — both boards are under the glass — Reached from below, on the live side, carrying mains current to every zone.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Do not pour water onto hot glass to cool it and do not work on a top that is still warm: thermal shock cracks a ceramic surface, and a cracked top takes the whole appliance out of service.
When to call a technician
Call once you have both lists — which keys respond and which zones heat. That pair narrows a two-ended code to one end before anyone arrives. Call immediately instead if a zone heats without being asked: that is a switching device failed closed, and the breaker should go off and stay off. Clear access to the cooktop before the visit; access time is charged like any other.

What this page does not cover
This page reads F47 for Jenn-Air cooktops in general, from the manufacturer's shared code index. A code can be documented differently for one family, so where a model-line page exists for your unit it is the more specific answer and is linked below. Not here: wiring colours, connector positions and part numbers, which differ by family.
