The short answer
Start here -- on an IPSO washer, a machine that will not begin a cycle points first at a lid lock that is not reporting closed, not at a failed motor control board. If that is clean, a closed or throttled supply tap is next. Most causes below are owner checks needing no tools and no panel off; the last is a service call.
What you are looking at
- It starts one time in three — The same cycle works intermittently with no pattern.
- The panel is dark and nothing responds — No lights, no beep, no reaction to the start button.
- The panel lights but the cycle never begins — It accepts the selection and then simply waits.
- NEAR MISS -- it fills and then stops — Filling proves start; the fault is later in the cycle and belongs on the cycle-fault page.
Causes, most likely first on this kind of unit
- The lid lock or door latch is not engaging — No machine will run with the lid or door unlocked. Ranked first: on an IPSO commercial machine running cycle after cycle, the lock is the most-used moving part on the machine and the one that stops a cycle silently.
- A supply tap is closed or throttled — Many machines will not advance out of fill, so a closed hot or cold tap reads as a machine that will not start. Ranked here because a machine waiting on water looks exactly like a machine that will not start.
- The supply is not reaching the machine — A tripped breaker, a dead outlet, or a cord unseated when the machine was pushed back leaves nothing on the panel. Placed here: no supply is the simplest explanation for a machine that does nothing at all.
- The motor control or main board — A failed motor control, a burned relay or a board that will not drive the motor needs a meter on live terminals to diagnose. Bottom of the list, deliberately: it is the one cause here that is not an owner repair, so it is checked last.
Check in this order, and why
- Listen for the lock to click and hold — Close it firmly and listen; no click, or a click that releases, names the lock.
- Open both taps fully and listen for fill — Full-open hot and cold, then start a cycle and listen for water entering.
- Only after supply, lock and taps are proven — A machine with power, a locked door, open taps and a clear control that still does nothing is a service call.
What an owner can safely check
- Prove the outlet and reseat the cord — Test the outlet with a known-good appliance, then push the plug fully home.
Tools: known-good lampAbout 10 min
- Full-open both taps and start a cycle — Listen for water entering within the first minute.
About 5 min
- Close the lid or door firmly and listen for the lock — A clean click that holds is what the control is waiting for.
About 5 min
- STOP HERE -- the next step needs a meter on live terminals — Boards, switches and motor circuits are technician work.
Before you open anything
Safety
Power off at the plug or breaker and close both taps first.
When to call a technician
Call once the filter, the hoses, the taps and the load itself are ruled out.

What this page does not cover
This page covers the IPSO washer as a class, not one family or model line. Where a family- or model-specific page exists for your unit it is the more specific answer -- go there first if your model is named. Deliberately not here: wiring colours, board part numbers, service-mode entry and the exact panel-removal order, all of which differ by family.
