The short answer
An oven that will not reach or hold temperature: on an IKEA oven that is usually a temperature sensor reading wrong, not a failed relay board. Second, and worth checking in the same hour, is a failed bake element. Work the order below -- cheap causes first, the one that is not an owner fix last.
What you are looking at
- Everything bakes pale and slow — Longer times for the same result.
- The oven overshoots or runs cool by a steady margin — A consistent offset from the set point.
- The panel works and the oven stays cold — Preheat never completes.
- NEAR MISS -- the cooktop works and the oven does not — On many ranges those are separate circuits or separate elements entirely.
Causes, most likely first on this kind of unit
- The temperature sensor has drifted — The control learns cavity temperature from a probe at the rear wall. Ranked first on an IKEA appliance on its mainstream OEM platform: on this platform the sensor is the part that drifts, and a steady offset is its signature.
- The bake element has failed — An open element leaves an oven that lights its panel, runs its fan and never heats from the bottom. Placed here: an open element gives no bake heat with the control behaving normally.
- One leg of the supply is missing — An electric oven heats on two hundred forty volts and runs its control on one hundred twenty. Placed here: a missing leg gives partial function, which is exactly what is being described.
- The relay board or the control — A burned relay, a failed control or an open thermal limit gives an oven that will not call for heat at all. Last, and that is the point of the order: it is the one cause here that is not an owner repair, so it is last.
Check in this order, and why
- Compare a thermometer with the set point — Put an oven thermometer on the middle rack and read it once the preheat completes.
- Watch whether the element glows — With the oven cold, set bake and watch: an element that never glows anywhere is open.
- Only after breaker, sensor and element are proven — A live panel, both poles reset, a sound element and an oven that still will not heat is a service call.
What an owner can safely check
- Switch the oven breaker fully off and on — Reset both poles; a half-tripped breaker is the classic partial-heat cause.
