The short answer
A door that sags, leaks heat or will not close square: on an IKEA oven that is usually a compressed or torn gasket, not a failed hinge assembly. If that is clean, tired hinges or springs is next. Work the order below -- cheap causes first, the one that is not an owner fix last.
What you are looking at
- The door does not sit square when closed — A wedge-shaped gap, wider at one end.
- Heat escapes visibly at one spot — A hot stripe or steam at one section of the seal.
- The door falls open or will not stay shut — It no longer holds itself at part-open.
- NEAR MISS -- warmth at the designed vent — Every oven vents heat somewhere; that is not a seal fault.
Causes, most likely first on this kind of unit
- The gasket is compressed, torn or displaced — The braided gasket round the door or the cavity mouth takes every cycle. Ranked first on an IKEA appliance on its mainstream OEM platform: the gasket is the wear part of this door and the one an owner can inspect completely.
- The hinges or their springs are tired — Oven doors are heavy and their hinges are sprung. Placed here: a dropped door meets the cavity unevenly however good the gasket is.
- A rack or spill is holding the door — A rack pushed forward, a baking sheet or hardened spill on the cavity flange stops the door closing flat. This rank, because anything on the sealing flange holds the door off and reads as a hinge fault.
- The door or hinge assembly — A bent door, a broken hinge or a failed glass pack needs the door off the appliance, and on a heavy door that is a two-person job with the springs under tension. It comes last because it is last because it is the only cause here that is never an owner repair.
Check in this order, and why
- Run a hand round the gasket, cold — Feel for flat spots, tears and clips that have let go; it should be springy all the way round.
- Check whether the door holds at part-open — A door that falls open or sits crooked has lost hinge tension -- that is a technician's adjustment.
- Only after gasket, racks and lock are cleared — A door that still will not sit square after cleaning and clearing is a service call.

- Let the oven cool, then run a hand round the gasket — Feel for flat spots, tears and clips that have released.
