The short answer
On an Iceco refrigerator, water inside the cabinet or on the floor is usually a cabinet sitting out of level rather than a cracked evaporator pan behind the panel. The next thing to rule out is a blocked defrost drain. Most causes below are owner checks needing no tools and no panel off; the last is a service call.
What you are looking at
- Water stands under the crisper drawers — It collects at the lowest point inside the cabinet.
- A puddle appears on the floor at the front — It returns within a day of being mopped.
- There is a sheet of ice on the freezer floor — Melt water froze where it pooled.
- NEAR MISS -- the floor is wet and the cabinet interior is bone dry — That points at the supply line or the pan, not at the defrost drain.
Causes, most likely first on this kind of unit
- The cabinet is not level — Drain troughs and pans rely on a level cabinet to carry water to the right place. First here, because on an Iceco box running from a vehicle or auxiliary battery these cabinets get installed on whatever floor they land on, and level is rarely checked.
- The defrost drain is blocked or frozen — Melt water from each defrost has one route out. Placed here: a blocked drain puts defrost water exactly where owners find it.
- The door seal is letting humid air in — A leaking gasket admits warm humid air that condenses on the nearest cold surface. Ranked here because condensed room air is water that never came from a pipe, which is why the supply looks fine.
- The trough or evaporator pan behind the panel — A cracked interior trough, a failed drain heater or a split hose behind the rear panel needs the panel off and the compartment thawed to reach. It comes last because it needs a panel off and a meter on a heater circuit, which is why it is last.
Check in this order, and why
- Put a level on the top of the cabinet — Front-to-back tilt is the one that matters; adjust the feet and recheck.
- Look in the trough and at the drain mouth — Ice or sludge at the drain, with water standing in the trough, is the confirmation.
- Only after the accessible drain is proven clear — Water returning with a clear drain, a level cabinet and a good seal points behind the panel -- a service call.

- Mop up, then find out where it returns first — Dry inside and out, then check both in an hour; where it reappears names the source.
