The short answer
A Havato refrigerator leaking water is usually a blocked defrost drain rather than a burst line: the drain ices over, the defrost water has nowhere to go, and it runs out under the crisper or down the back. On this build the cabinet is a direct import, and it is usually the only refrigeration in a small apartment, so it runs without a break, which is why the drain comes first below. Clean water at the front and water at the back mean different faults.
What you observe
- Water pooling under the crisper drawers — The defrost drain is blocked and the water is taking the only route left to it.
- Ice building on the freezer floor under the vent — The drain is frozen rather than merely blocked, which is the same fault earlier in its life.
- Water running down the inside of the door — Condensation from a seal that no longer closes, not a plumbing fault at all.
- NEAR MISS: water inside and nothing cold — Cooling has failed and what you are seeing is the cabinet thawing. Read the cooling page first.
Causes, most likely first on this build
- Cabinet not level, so water runs forward instead of to the drain — Ranked first on this build: these are levelled by eye during a quick installation, and a cabinet tipped forward sends defrost water out of the door instead of down the drain.
- Water supply line, fitting or inlet valve leaking — Second: the line is under pressure whenever the tap is open, so a weep here does not stay small.
- Blocked or frozen defrost drain — Third: the single most common refrigerator leak on any build, and the cheapest to clear.
- Door seal failing, so warm moist air condenses inside — Last: usually mistaken for a leak rather than being one, and it is easy to test.
Check in this order, and why
- Find where the water actually is: front, back, or inside the door — Front means the defrost drain, back means supply or pan, inside the door means the seal.
- Check the cabinet is level and tips back very slightly — A clear drain still fails on a cabinet that leans forward.
- Feel along the supply line and its fittings with a dry tissue — Only after the drain, because it is the less likely of the two and the harder to reach.
What an owner can safely check
- Empty the cabinet and defrost fully with the doors open — Several hours with the power off clears a frozen drain and tells you whether the drain was the cause.

- Flush the defrost drain from inside the freezer with warm water — Find the drain hole under the rear vent and flush it until it runs freely. Do not push anything rigid down it.

Water and electricity share the space under a refrigerator, so switch off at the breaker before you kneel in a wet area or move a wet cabinet, and unplug it before removing any panel. Shut off the water supply at its valve before touching any fitting. The cabinet is heavy, and a wet floor makes walking it out genuinely dangerous, so get help.
When to call a technician
Call once the drain runs free, the cabinet is level and the seal holds and water is still arriving, because the next step is the evaporator drain trough behind the rear panel. Call at once if the water is arriving fast, or if it is running near a socket or an extension lead, and shut off the supply and the breaker first. Parts for a direct import come from the seller rather than a service network, so confirm the part can actually be had before paying for a diagnosis that ends in a back-order.
