The short answer
Haier freezers are mostly compact, upright and under-counter units, and on that class the installation matters as much as the components. A unit pushed into a cabinet recess, sited in an unheated garage, or packed to the walls will fail to hold temperature with nothing wrong inside it. Rule out placement before defrost, and defrost before anything sealed.

- unpack the compartment until air can move around the load. — Because: blocked airflow produces uneven freezing that is easily misread as a system failure.

Unplug the unit before vacuuming a rear coil or removing a panel, and never chip ice off an evaporator with a knife or screwdriver, because puncturing the tubing releases refrigerant and ends the repair permanently. Compact units are top-heavy with the door open, so do not tilt one alone.
