The short answer
On a Haier dishwasher, which rack washes badly tells you which part of the spray system to look at. Haier's platforms are compact and tightly packed, so the component that fails is usually the one with the least clearance around it and access drives the check order more than likelihood does. Most of the checks below are owner work and cost nothing; the point at which they stop is stated explicitly, and it is the point at which the job becomes a service call.
What you observe
- Dishes come out wet as well as dirty — Low water temperature, which affects both cleaning and drying together.
- Food residue left on the dishes after a full cycle — Spray blocked, filter blocked or loading fault.
- A white film or chalky deposit on everything — Hard water and insufficient rinse aid or detergent rather than a mechanical fault.
- Cloudy glasses that do not clear when wiped — Etching from very soft water, too much detergent or too high a temperature — and it is permanent.
- NEAR MISS — only plastics come out wet — That is normal on a condensation-drying machine, not a fault.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- Loading that blocks the spray or nests items together — Free to correct, extremely common, and the cause of most complaints about one area of a load.
- Heat concentrated around the component with the least clearance — A full mechanism in a small cabinet leaves some parts with almost no air around them, and those run hottest and age first.
- A blocked filter recirculating debris — Ranked first because the machine washes with whatever is in the sump and the filter is the part nobody cleans.
- Water arriving too cool — Detergent needs heat to work; a long cold run to the kitchen or a low heater setting ruins the wash.
- A failed wash pump, heater or diverter — Ranked last: real, but everything above is free to check and far more likely.

Check in this order, and why
- Check the detergent is fresh and rinse aid is topped up — Detergent absorbs moisture and loses effectiveness in the box.
- Check clearance at the back and sides before anything else — A compact chassis pushed tight against a wall runs hot, and heat produces most of the faults on this platform.
- Remove and clean the filter and look at what is in it — What you find in the filter tells you what has been recirculating over the dishes.
- Spin both spray arms by hand and check every hole is clear — They should turn with a light push and the holes should be open all the way round.
- Only then suspect the pump, the heater or the diverter — Every check above costs nothing and most complaints end before this point.

- Run the kitchen tap hot, then start the cycle immediately — It removes the cold slug in the supply line from the equation.

Safety
Switch the appliance off at its breaker before removing any panel; the junction box beneath a built-in dishwasher stays live at the supply side. Broken glass collects in the filter and the sump: look before reaching in and use a cloth rather than bare fingers. Let the machine cool before reaching into the tub — wash water is hot enough to scald and the heater element stays hot after the cycle.
When to call a technician
Call a plumber instead if the kitchen hot water takes a very long time to arrive, because that is a plumbing fault that no appliance repair will fix.
