Confirm the door itself closes squarely, since a misaligned door concentrates pressure on one spot and defeats even a good seal. For prevention, wipe the gasket dry periodically and leave the door slightly ajar between cycles so it is not sitting in constant moisture, which feeds the mold that hardens and degrades the rubber. Because the part is inexpensive and tool-free, do not patch a torn gasket — replace it.
