The short answer
On Frestec Upstreman an ice maker that has stopped is most often a water supply that is off, kinked or barely open. Ranked that way because the answer depends on whether your cabinet is thermoelectric or compressor driven, and that is the first thing to establish.
What you observe
- Cubes are hollow, small or misshapen — Water is arriving but not enough of it, which points upstream at flow rather than at the maker.
- The mould is full of ice that never drops — Filling works and harvesting does not, which is a much shorter list.
- NEAR MISS: there is water on the floor as well as no ice — Then you have a supply leak, and that page is the one to read first. Shut the supply valve before anything else.
Causes, most likely first on Frestec Upstreman
- The water supply is off, kinked or barely open — First on a machine this size, where the owner is close to every part of it. A shutoff valve half closed after other work, a supply line crushed behind the cabinet when it was last pushed back, or a saddle valve that was never opened properly. The machine calls for water and very little arrives.
- The freezer is not cold enough to trigger a harvest — Second: on a small machine this is quick to confirm and quick to rule out. The maker will not eject until its mould reaches its release temperature. A freezer holds food safely at 0 degrees Fahrenheit or below, and a compartment sitting above that will keep food frozen while never quite triggering a harvest.
- The ice maker is switched off, or there is not one fitted — Third. The bail arm gets lifted by a bag of frozen food, or a panel switch gets pressed during a clean, and the machine dutifully stops.
- The ice maker module, ejector or mould heater has failed — Last, and it is the reason the order above matters. The mould fills and never releases, or the motor never turns.
Check in this order, and why
- Trace the supply line from the valve to the cabinet and look for kinks — A crushed line behind the unit is common and completely invisible from the front.
- Put a thermometer in the freezer overnight and read it in the morning — It separates an ice-maker fault from a refrigeration fault with one measurement.
- Look at the bail arm or the on-screen ice setting — It is the one check that can end the diagnosis in seconds, so it goes first whatever else is true.
What an owner can safely check
- Find the shutoff valve, confirm it is fully open, then ease the cabinet out and inspect the line — Look for a sharp bend where the cabinet was pushed back against the line.

- Leave an appliance thermometer in the freezer overnight — A freezer holds food safely at 0 degrees Fahrenheit or below.

- Check the bail arm is down, or that the ice setting is on — Clear any food touching the arm.
About 5 min
- STOP HERE if the next step needs a meter on live terminals — That is where an owner check ends and a service call begins.
Before you open anything
Safety
Shut the water supply valve before disconnecting any line, and have a towel and a bowl ready because the line stays charged after the valve closes. Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel near the ice maker. Never thaw a frozen fill tube with a flame, a heat gun or a naked bulb: the liner and the tube are plastic and they will deform long before the ice gives up.
When to call a technician
Call when the supply is proven good, the freezer is cold enough and the mould still will not release, because that puts the fault in the module and it is replaced as an assembly. Call sooner if you find water anywhere it should not be, or if the freezer is sitting warm, because then the ice is a symptom of something larger and the cold matters more than the cubes do.

What this page does not cover
This page covers the brand and the refrigerator class, not one family or model line. Where a family-specific or model-specific page exists for your unit, that page is the more specific answer and it takes precedence over this one. Not here: part numbers, wiring colours and component locations, which differ by family.
