The short answer
On Finlux a drum that turns without heat is most often a lint filter and housing restricting the airflow, not a burnt-out element. Ranked that way because its condenser-style drying stack puts the heater, the thermostat and the lint path in series, so a restriction shows up as a control complaint first.
What you observe
- The drum turns normally but the clothes come out cold — Heat is missing entirely, which is a much shorter list than heat that is merely weak.
- Clothes come out warm and damp after a full cycle — Airflow rather than heat. The lint path and the vent are the place to start.
- NEAR MISS: the drum does not turn at all — That is a different fault with a different page. A dryer that will not tumble is not a heating problem.
Causes, most likely first on Finlux
- The lint filter and the housing below it are blocked — First here, because this platform interprets little and shows the fault almost directly. Restricted airflow makes the machine run hot inside, and the thermal protection cuts the heat to save it. A filter that looks clean can still be sealed by a film of fabric-softener residue that water beads on rather than passes through.
- The programme selected has no heat — Second, and the cause that most often looks like something worse. Air-dry, fluff and refresh programmes tumble without heat by design, and they are easy to select by accident. A cycle that has been left on a delicate or eco setting also runs far cooler than people expect.
- The vent duct or the outside hood is restricted — Third. A crushed flexible duct behind the machine, a long run packed with lint, or an outside flap held shut by a bird nest will each starve the machine of air.
- The heating element, thermal fuse, igniter or gas valve has failed — Last, and it is the reason the order above matters. No heat with a clear lint path, a clear vent, a heated programme selected and a full supply present.
Check in this order, and why
- Hold the filter up and pour water through it — Water that sits on the mesh instead of running through names a blockage you cannot see.
- Read the programme actually selected, not the one you meant to select — It costs nothing and it explains a machine with no fault at all.
- Go outside and feel the air coming from the hood while the dryer runs — Weak or no airflow outside is the whole answer, and it is the cause with the fire risk.
What an owner can safely check
- Wash the lint filter in warm soapy water, dry it, and vacuum the housing below it — Do this before every other check: it is the most common cause and the biggest fire risk.
Tools: vacuum, warm soapy water, soft brushAbout 20 min
- Select a standard timed or cotton programme and run it for a few minutes — Feel the drum: a programme change that brings heat back ends the diagnosis.
About 10 min
- Disconnect the duct at the machine, clear the whole run, and check the outside flap opens — Replace crushed flexible duct with a smooth rigid run wherever you can.
Tools: vacuum, screwdriver, duct brushAbout 60 min
- STOP HERE if the next step needs a meter on live terminals — That is where an owner check ends and a service call begins.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A restricted vent is a genuine fire risk, not a performance complaint: if the cabinet feels hot or you smell scorching, stop using the machine until the whole duct run is clear. If you smell gas at a gas dryer, do not switch anything on or off, leave the building, and call the gas utility or the emergency services from outside.
When to call a technician
Call when the lint path and the vent are genuinely clear, a heated programme is selected and the full supply is present, and there is still no heat, because that puts the fault in the element, the thermal fuse or the gas train. Call immediately if you smell scorching, if the cabinet is hot, or if a gas dryer smells of gas, and stop using it.

What this page does not cover
This page covers the brand and the dryer class, not one family or model line. Where a family-specific or model-specific page exists for your unit, that page is the more specific answer and it takes precedence over this one. Not here: part numbers, wiring colours and component locations, which differ by family.
