The short version
Most control complaints on compact refrigerators under this nameplate are not board failures. They are status indicators being read as codes, or a board locked out by a disturbance on the supply and cleared by a proper power-down. Record the display, do a full power-down, and see what survives it. What survives, and what comes with a warm cabinet, is what needs a technician.
What the panel is doing
- Characters or a symbol shown where a temperature normally is — A genuine code. Photograph it before touching anything.
- The display is dark but the unit cools — Panel or supply to the panel, not the cooling system.
- Some keys respond and others are dead — Points at the membrane and ribbon rather than the board.
- An indicator flashing with no characters — Usually a door-open or high-temperature alert on a unit that has no code set at all.
- NEAR MISS - the panel is fine and the cabinet is warm — A cooling fault. The controls are reporting correctly.
Causes, ranked for this class of unit
- It is not a code at all — First, because most units under this name use a mechanical dial and a status lamp, so the thing being decoded was never a code.
- A supply disturbance has locked the board out — Second: these units sit on shared circuits with kettles and heaters, and a brownout leaves the board latched in a safe state.
- Control membrane or ribbon failure — Third. The ribbon flexes with the door and the membrane sits where it gets wiped, so partial key failure is common.
- An open or shorted temperature sensor — Fourth, and the usual reason a real, persistent code appears. Cooling behaviour goes to one extreme or the other.
- The main board itself — Last. It is the expensive answer and the least likely one, which is precisely why it is checked last.
Why this order
- Identify what kind of control you have — Dial or digital. If it is a dial, four of the five causes above cannot apply.
- Record the display before any reset — The evidence is destroyed by the first thing most people try.
- Full power-down, then observe — This separates a latched board from a real fault more cheaply than any other test.
- Then test the keys, then watch the cooling — Key behaviour isolates the panel; cooling behaviour isolates the sensor.
What an owner can do
- Photograph the panel exactly as found — Include every lit and flashing indicator, not just the characters.

- Power the unit down fully and leave it — Unplug or switch off the breaker, wait until the panel is dark and stays dark for several minutes, then restore.

- Press every key in turn and note which respond — A partial map points at the membrane; nothing responding points at supply to the panel.

- Put a thermometer in the compartment and read it later — This tells the technician whether the code is reporting a real temperature problem.

Before you open the panel
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel - a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Do not tape over, wedge or disconnect the door switch to silence an alert: the alert exists because the door is open, and the switch also controls the light and, on fan-cooled units, the fan. If the panel smells of hot plastic or shows any browning around a key, leave the unit unplugged and stop there.
When to bring someone in
Call when a code returns after a full power-down, when the display is dark and the cabinet is also warming, or when the panel has a burnt smell. Those three are the cases where continuing to reset simply delays the repair. You can reasonably wait for a scheduled visit if the code is present, the cabinet is holding temperature, and the unit is otherwise behaving - but keep the photograph, because a code that clears itself before the technician arrives is the hardest kind to diagnose.
