Read this before starting
Safety
Unplug the machine or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never mix cleaning products in a drum, and never run a chlorine product straight after an acidic descaler: the combination produces a gas you do not want in a laundry room.
Where the owner work ends
Call a technician when dose, load size, programme and a maintenance wash have all been corrected and results are still poor, especially if the door glass stays cold at the end of a hot cycle — that points at the heater or its control. Call sooner if the machine has also started leaving the load soaking wet, because then the wash problem and the drain problem are the same fault.
