The first thing to rule out on a EuroCave refrigerator is the top cause below — a door seal letting humid air in — and the second is a dislodged, cracked or overflowing evaporation pan. Nearly every refrigerator leak is either defrost water that cannot reach its drain or supply water escaping from a fitting, and where the water appears tells you which of the two you have.
What you observe
- Ice building in a sheet under the drawers or in the base of the freezer — The same blockage seen a stage earlier, before there is enough water to spill.
- The humidity reading has drifted, or corks and labels are showing the change before the thermometer does — A wine cabinet manages humidity deliberately, so the bottles themselves are an instrument.
- NEAR MISS — water only when the dispenser is used — That is a dispenser or supply-side fault rather than a defrost fault, and it points at the line, the fitting or the filter housing.
Likely causes in order
- A door seal letting humid air in — Ranked first on a EuroCave refrigerator because the seal and the glass are doing humidity work as well as thermal work, so a marginal door changes readings that a kitchen fridge would simply absorb. Warm air condenses on cold surfaces and the resulting water has to go somewhere; in a humid room a marginal door produces a surprising amount of it.
- A dislodged, cracked or overflowing evaporation pan — Second here: the cabinet is heavy, sits on adjustable feet and needs its ventilation path clear; both are set once at delivery and rarely re-checked.
- The cabinet is out of level so water runs the wrong way — The trough and the drain rely on gravity; a cabinet tilted forward or sideways sends melt water to the front lip instead of the drain hole.
Check in this order, and why
- First: Run the paper test round the frame and look for condensation on the frame rather than only on the shelves. — It sits first because the seal and the glass are doing humidity work as well as thermal work, so a marginal door changes readings that a kitchen fridge would simply absorb.
- Second: With the power off, look underneath at the pan seating and check whether the floor is wet directly under it. — Next, and it needs no tool.
- Third: Check the level side to side and front to back, and look at which corner the water actually collects in. — Only once the checks above are clean.

- Check the cabinet consumables and its ventilation channel — The charcoal filter and any humidity element are service items on a wine cabinet, and the ventilation path a built-in installation depends on is frequently closed off during a room refit.

- Check and re-seat the evaporation pan — With the power off, look underneath for a pan sitting out of its cradle, cracked, or simply full because the room is very humid.

Safety
Water and electricity share a cabinet here. Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel or reaching underneath — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off — and dry the floor before you kneel on it. Shut the water supply off at its valve before touching any fitting, and never use a sharp tool to clear a drain hole from inside the freezer: the drain heater and the sensor are directly behind it.
Where the owner work ends
Call a technician when the drain blocks again within weeks of being cleared, when the water is arriving with the frost sheet of a defrost fault, or when a supply fitting weeps after being re-seated. Call immediately if water is reaching an outlet, a power lead or the compressor compartment, and switch the machine off at the breaker before it does.
