The short answer

Never defeat a lid or door interlock to watch the drum move. A washer is heavy and holds water, so get help to move it and shut the taps off first.
When to call a technician
Call once the socket, the door, the taps, the controls and the drum are all clean and the machine still does nothing, because what is left is a switch, the wiring or the board and all three mean a panel off. Call immediately if the machine trips the breaker the moment it is plugged in, or if you can smell anything hot: a machine that trips its supply should stay off.
