Start here
Before treating an Elisii unit as plumbed trouble, work out whether the water is clean and cold or melted frost. An unplumbed cabinet has no water supply at all, so the drain and the seal are the whole list. The ranking below starts where the water starts.
How the fault presents
- A wet patch at the back near a valve or fitting — Only relevant on a plumbed build with an ice maker.
- Water on the floor at the front — Overflow from inside, or condensation running off a seal that is not closing.
- A sheet of ice across the bottom — The same fault a stage further on: the water froze where it pooled.
- NEAR MISS: condensation on the outside of the cabinet in a humid room — Normal on some builds. Water running from inside the cabinet is not.
Causes, most likely first
- Drain plug left open, or the cabinet out of level — First, and by a clear margin: a chest cabinet has a drain plug for manual defrosting, and a plug left loose afterwards weeps every time frost melts.
- Defrost drain or drain channel blocked — Second: the drain is narrow, carries debris and is cold enough to freeze if the flow slows, which is why it blocks rather than wears out.
- Lid or door seal admitting humid air — Third: warm humid air entering a cold cabinet condenses and runs, and it also builds frost that melts later, so one seal fault produces water twice.
Check in this order
- Check the drain plug is closed and the cabinet is level — Both are free, and both are common after a move or a defrost.
- Find the drain opening and check it flows — A little warm water poured in should disappear rather than pool.
- Test the seal with a slip of paper around the opening — A gap plus frost nearby is the confirmation.
What you can safely check yourself
- Find the drain opening or channel and check it flows — A little warm water should disappear, not pool.
Tools: jug of warm waterAbout 25 min
- Check the drain plug is closed and the cabinet is level — Especially after a manual defrost or a move.
Tools: spirit level, spannerAbout 20 min
- Dry any rear fittings and lay paper towel overnight — Only relevant on a plumbed build with an ice maker.
Tools: paper towel, torchAbout 20 min
- STOP HERE before removing a panel or a plumbed joint — Drain tubes and inlet valves sit behind panels beside mains wiring, with the water still under pressure.
Before you open anything
Safety
Isolate before you investigate: unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel or grille, because a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. The sealed system is not owner-serviceable at any point, and refrigerant must never be vented. A freezer holds food safely at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below, so decide about the food before you start. allowlist:unplug-before-service allowlist:freezer-0f
When this becomes a service call
Call when the drain has been cleared or cannot be reached, the plug is closed, the cabinet is level, the seal passes the paper test and water still appears. What remains is a drain tube, an inlet valve or a crack behind a panel. Call sooner if water is reaching a wood floor or a neighbouring appliance.

Generalized information, and where the specifics live
Read this as generalized information about an Elisii unit. A chest cabinet, an upright and a compact counter-height unit behave differently, and a manual-defrost cabinet has no defrost system to fail at all, so nothing here is a model procedure. Where a model page exists it is linked below and takes precedence.
