The short answer
Note when the water appears. During fill means supply hoses or the inlet valve; during spin means the bellows, the drain hose or the tub seal; after the cycle means drainage or a pump housing. Supply-side leaks are the urgent ones because they run at building pressure with nobody watching.
Timing tells you the branch
- Water appears as the machine fills — Supply connections or the inlet valve.
- Water appears during the spin only — Bellows, drain hose or a tub seal under pressure.
- Water is present after the cycle ends — Drain path or the pump housing.
- A slow drip behind the machine at all times — A supply fitting under constant pressure; treat as urgent.
- Suds escaping rather than water — Overdosing, and it is the easiest one to fix.

- Supply hose or its connection weeping — First by risk and common by frequency, because the supply is always live.
- Bellows torn or held open by debris — Second, and it shows during the spin when water is thrown outward.

- Pump housing or filter cover not sealed after cleaning — Fourth, and entirely self-inflicted; always test after a filter clean.

How to find it
- Close the supply taps and see whether a standing drip stops — It separates supply-side from everything else immediately.
- Dry the floor completely and run a short cycle while watching — Timing is the diagnosis on this page.
- Check the filter cover and its seal if the machine was recently cleaned — This is the most common self-inflicted leak.
- Inspect the bellows fold last, with the door open and the seal pulled back — It is the most likely drum-side source.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never work on a machine standing in water; dry the floor first and treat any wet electrical connection as live until it is isolated. Close both supply taps before disturbing a hose, and remember that the water inside a machine mid-cycle is hot.
When to call
Call immediately for any weeping supply connection, because that is the failure mode that floods a building overnight. Call for a torn bellows, for a leak that appears only under spin once the filter cover has been checked, and for any leak whose source you cannot see. On a commercial site, take the machine out of service while you wait rather than running it between inspections.
