The short answer
Most door complaints on mounted units are mechanical: a dropped or twisted door that no longer presents its latch hooks squarely. That is a service adjustment rather than an owner one, because the switches behind the latch are a safety system and are never adjusted, bridged or bypassed.
What you see and hear
- The unit starts only if the door is lifted while closing — A dropped door, found the hard way.
- A cycle stops on its own partway through — The switch chain is opening intermittently as the door settles.
- The door no longer sits flush with the cavity face — Twist or hinge wear, visible along the top edge.
- A visible gap or damaged perimeter around the door — Stop using the unit and call; this is a containment question.
- The latch hooks look bent or scuffed — They have been meeting the frame at an angle.
- Not this fault: the door closes perfectly and nothing heats — That is the not-heating page.

- Door dropped at the hinge from one-handed use — First on this install type, and the reason for most intermittent starts.
- Latch hooks worn or misaligned with the switch assembly — Second, and usually a consequence of the first.
- Interlock switch degraded with age — Third. It is a service replacement, never an adjustment.
- Hinge or hinge pin worn — Fourth, and typically found together with a dropped door.
- Debris in the latch pocket — Fifth, and the only cause on this list that is trivially cleared.

What to look at, in order
- Open and close the door slowly and watch where the hooks meet the frame — It shows a misalignment that a quick slam hides.
- Check whether lifting slightly while closing makes the unit start — A positive result names the door drop.
- Look along the top edge for a gap that varies across the width — That is twist, and it is measured by eye.
- Inspect the perimeter and choke area for damage last, and stop if it is damaged — This is the check that can end the appliance rather than continue the diagnosis.

- Clean the latch pocket and hook faces with a dry brush — Crumbs and hardened splatter genuinely stop doors latching.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. The door interlock system stays exactly as built: it is not adjusted, packed, taped or worked around in any way, and a unit that will only run when the door is held is out of service until a technician has seen it. Damage to the door perimeter or the visible choke area means stop using the appliance now.
When to call
Call as soon as the door has to be lifted, pressed or held for the unit to run, because the fault is in the mechanical chain that keeps the cavity safely closed. Call as well for a door that no longer sits flush, for a cycle that stops on its own, and for any visible damage to the door surface or its perimeter. This is the one symptom family where continuing to use the appliance is not a reasonable option.
