Electrolux Dishwasher i50: Drain Pump Drive Circuit Failure
Electrolux Board Design for i50
The Electrolux control board uses an isolated gate driver for the drain pump triac, meaning the board's logic section is electrically separated from the high-power pump circuit through an optocoupler. This design protects the microprocessor from pump-related voltage spikes but adds a component (the optocoupler) that can fail independently.
On Frigidaire boards, the gate driver is typically direct-coupled, making the triac the primary failure point. On Electrolux, either the triac or the optocoupler can fail, and the board cannot distinguish between them. Both produce i50.

Pump Motor Test (Same as Frigidaire)
- Pull breaker. Remove kick plate. Find pump two-pin connector.
- Measure resistance: 5-30 ohms = motor good, board is the failure. Infinite = motor open, replace pump. Under 2 ohms = motor shorted, replace both.
Board Replacement
Electrolux boards cost $130-$220 (typically $20-$40 more than equivalent Frigidaire boards due to the isolated driver design and higher component grade). The board mounts behind the inner door panel. Access via Torx T-20 screws.
Safety First — Know the Risks
Live 120V wiring in a wet environment is one of the most dangerous DIY scenarios. Water + electricity = serious shock risk. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

Board-Level Repair Option
Because Electrolux boards have the optocoupler as a separate failure point, a technician with PCB skills can test and replace the optocoupler ($1-$3 component) in addition to the triac ($2). This makes board-level repair on Electrolux slightly more involved than Frigidaire but potentially more cost-effective.

FAQ
Why does the Electrolux board cost more? The isolated gate driver design uses additional components (optocouplers, isolated power supply) that add to manufacturing cost but improve reliability and board longevity.
Is the Electrolux board interchangeable with Frigidaire? Not directly. Connector layouts may match but firmware and component grades differ. Use the Electrolux-specific part number.
Can a shorted pump motor damage the optocoupler? Indirectly. The shorted motor draws excess current through the triac, which generates heat that can damage the nearby optocoupler through thermal conduction on the PCB.
