What a cold DeLonghi usually means
A DeLonghi that lights up, runs its fan and stays cold has almost always lost one element or the relay feeding it. On the convection models the fan running while nothing warms is the giveaway, because the fan and the elements are separately controlled. Element and relay work is a service job, but the checks that tell you which one it is are not.
What you are seeing
- The oven powers on, the fan runs, and the cavity never warms.
- One element glows and the other stays black.
- The oven heats but takes far longer than it used to.
- Food browns on one side only.
- The display shows the set temperature reached while the cavity is clearly cold.
- Not this fault: A completely dead unit with no display is a no-power fault, not a heating fault.
- Not this fault: A cycle that stops partway through with a code is a controls fault.
Most likely causes, in DeLonghi order
- A failed bake or broil element — Why ranked: First on a compact DeLonghi because the elements are exposed in the cavity and are the hardest-worked part. A break is usually visible as a blister, a bright spot or a parted coil.
- Element relay on the control board not closing — Why ranked: Second. The board is alive and the display behaves normally, but the contact that feeds the element has failed. The signature is a cold element with no visible damage.
- Temperature sensor reading high — Why ranked: Third: a sensor drifting high tells the board the oven is already at temperature, so it never calls for heat. This shows as an oven that reaches setpoint on the display impossibly fast.
- Selector or function switch on the wrong path — Why ranked: Fourth. Convection, bake and broil feed different elements on these ovens, and a worn selector can leave one path unpowered. Rotating through the functions separates it in seconds.
- Door not closing fully, so the cavity never holds heat — Why ranked: Last, because it produces slow heating rather than no heating. It matters most on the countertop models, where a warped seal or a bent hinge is common.
What to check, in order
- With the oven on bake, look through the glass and see which elements glow. — Because: This single observation separates a dead element from a dead relay before anything is opened.
- Rotate through every function - bake, broil, convection - and note which ones produce glow. — Because: Different functions feed different elements, so a pattern here points straight at the selector or at one element.
- Watch how fast the display claims to reach the setpoint. — Because: An oven that reports temperature reached while cold is a sensor reading high, not a heating circuit fault.
- Close the door and look for light or heat escaping at the edges. — Because: Slow heating with good elements is usually a seal or hinge problem rather than an electrical one.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Elements stay dangerously hot long after the oven is switched off, and the glass on a compact oven reaches the same temperature as the cavity. Never touch an element to test whether it is live - look for glow through the glass instead. Do not line the cavity floor with foil; it reflects heat back into the element and shortens its life. Let the oven cool fully before moving it to reach the outlet.
When this becomes a service call
An element is visibly damaged, blistered or parted. Every function is cold while the display behaves normally - that is a relay or board job. The oven reaches setpoint on the display while a thermometer shows it cold. Heating became erratic after a spill or a boil-over reached an element.
