Why a DeLonghi cycle stops partway
A DeLonghi that starts a cycle and then stops is usually protecting itself. On a compact oven the cabinet has very little room to shed heat, so the thermal cut-out and the cooling fan decide whether a long cycle survives. Check clearance and airflow before you suspect a timer or a board.
What you are seeing
- The cycle starts normally and stops before it finishes.
- The oven stops at roughly the same point every time.
- It will not restart until it has stood cold for a while.
- The cooling fan is loud, or silent when it should be running.
- The timer counts down but no heat is produced for part of the cycle.
- Not this fault: A cycle that never starts at all is a will-not-start fault.
- Not this fault: A cycle that completes but leaves food raw is a heating fault, not a cycle fault.
Most likely causes, in DeLonghi order
- Thermal cut-out opening because the cabinet cannot vent — Why ranked: First on a compact DeLonghi. The pattern is unmistakable: the cycle dies at about the same elapsed time each run and needs a cool-down before it will restart.
- Oven pushed against a wall or under a cabinet — Why ranked: Second, and really the cause behind cause one. Rear and side clearance is what these ovens rely on, and kitchens rarely give it to them.
- Cooling fan failed or obstructed — Why ranked: Third. Without the fan the cabinet climbs to the protector every time, which turns an occasional trip into a reliable one.
- Door not latching for the full cycle — Why ranked: Fourth: a door that eases open under heat drops the interlock and ends the cycle. It shows as a stop with no cool-down needed to restart.
- Timer or control board fault — Why ranked: Last. It is real, but it is the only cause on this list that does not care whether the oven is hot, so it is diagnosed by elimination.
What to check, in order
- Time how long the oven runs before it stops, on two separate attempts. — Because: A repeatable elapsed time is the signature of a thermal trip and puts cause one first.
- Try to restart immediately after the stop. — Because: If it refuses while hot and starts when cold, it is thermal. If it restarts at once, look at the door and the board.
- Pull the oven clear of the wall and out from under any cabinet, then repeat the cycle. — Because: This tests cause two directly, costs nothing, and often ends the investigation.
- Listen for the cooling fan during a run. — Because: A silent fan on a hot cabinet is cause three and explains a trip that has become reliable.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A repeatedly tripping thermal cut-out is a warning, not a nuisance - do not defeat it, and do not run the oven in a confined space to see whether it trips again. Never operate a countertop oven under a cabinet without the clearance the manufacturer specifies. Do not block or tape over any vent to reduce noise. Move a hot oven only after it has cooled fully.
When this becomes a service call
The oven trips repeatedly even with full clearance all round. The cooling fan does not run at all during a cycle. The oven stops and restarts immediately, with no cool-down needed. There is a smell of hot plastic or scorching from the cabinet.
