The short answer

Safety
Switch the machine off at its breaker and close its water supply valve before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Water pooling under a powered built-in appliance is a shock hazard and it will reach the wiring in the base before it reaches the floor you can see. Never run a machine you know is leaking in order to reproduce the fault without watching it.
When this stops being an owner job
Call when the water is arriving from under the machine rather than out of the door, when a fitting weeps after being tightened, or when the leak continues with a clean, undamaged seal and correct detergent. A pump or sump seal means the machine comes out of the cabinet.
