The short version

- The gasket is torn, hardened or has lost its shape — Old gaskets take a set and no longer spring back against the cabinet.
- NEAR MISS — the seal is fine but the cabinet is warm — That is a cooling fault and the ranked causes there are different.
Causes, most likely first on this line
- Cabinet not level, so the door does not swing closed — A floor that slopes or a foot that has wound out turns a self-closing door into one that must be pushed every time. Ranked first here because these machines are commissioned by an installer, which means the faults that appear in the first season are almost always commissioning faults, not manufacturing ones.
- Gasket hardened, distorted or torn — A tear anywhere along the run destroys the magnetic pull at that point and lets a steady thread of room air in.
- Door overloaded or shelves fouling the seal — A shelf or drawer standing slightly proud holds the door open by a fraction, which is enough to break the seal without being visible.
- Hinge or hinge plate worn or loose — The bottom hinge carries the weight of a loaded door and its fixings work loose over years of use.
What to check first, second, third
- Open the door halfway and let go — First — A door that stays put where you leave it is telling you the cabinet is not sitting the way it should.
- Run a paper strip round the whole door and mark every point where it slides out — Second — It finds the gap and tells you whether the problem is local or general, which decides the repair.
- Empty the door racks and close it again, then watch the same paper test — Third — It separates a loaded-door problem from a worn one in a single try.

- Run the paper test at four points on every edge — Mark each place the strip pulls out freely; that map is the whole diagnosis.

Safety

When to call a technician
Cleaning, levelling, unloading and reshaping a gasket are all owner work and they resolve most cases. Replacing a gasket or realigning a hinge on a loaded door is not: the parts are model-specific and a door that drops during the work damages the cabinet face. Worth saying to whoever attends: these units are integrated into cabinetry with a dedicated air path through a plinth or top grille.
