The short answer
Water on the floor under a Cuisinart refrigerator nearly always has one of three sources: the defrost drain, the supply line, or condensation that has nowhere to go. Locating which one takes a torch and a few minutes, and two of the three are owner-correctable. Keep the machine in mind — a kitchen nameplate whose refrigeration and microwave products are contract-built compacts rather than in-house designs — rather than the category average.
What you observe
- A puddle on the floor at the front — Usually runs forward from inside the cabinet or from the door line.
- Ice under the drawers rather than water — The same drain fault, caught at a colder point in the cycle.
- Damp along the door seal line — Condensation from a sealing gap; the leak page and the seal page overlap here.
- NEAR MISS — water only when the dispenser is used — That is a dispenser or supply-line fitting, and it is a different check.
Ranked causes for this brand and appliance
- Defrost drain blocked — Once blocked, the meltwater backs up and appears under the drawers on each defrost cycle, so the leak arrives in waves rather than continuously. Ranked first here because the platform underneath is a contract-built design shared with other nameplates, so the electro-mechanical parts reach the end of their life well before anything on the sealed circuit does.
- Supply line or its fitting weeping — Plastic supply tubing also splits where it has been pinched by the cabinet being pushed back.
- Evaporation tray cracked or displaced — The tray above the compressor collects everything the drain delivers and relies on compressor heat to evaporate it.
- Cabinet tipped forward, so water runs out instead of to the tray — Condensate management assumes a slight rearward tilt; a unit levelled flat or tipped forward sends water the wrong way.
What to check first, second, third
- Look for a small hole or channel at the base of the rear wall inside the cabinet — First — It is the most common cause by a wide margin and it is visible without any dismantling.
- Dry the fittings behind the unit, then look again after a few hours — Second — A dry-and-watch tells you whether the water is arriving from the supply without waiting for a puddle.
- With the power off, look at the tray above the compressor for cracks or a bad seat — Third — It distinguishes a drain that is working from one that is not, which changes the repair entirely.

- Clear the defrost drain from inside the cabinet — Warm water flushed gently down the drain hole clears most blockages.

When to call a technician
Call when the drain has been flushed, the unit is levelled, the fittings are dry and the water still returns. One installation detail shifts the odds on this line: these are countertop or under-counter units, usually crowded by cabinetry with little clearance behind.
