The short version
When a Cuisinart refrigerator door will not stay shut or the seal is lifting, the cabinet itself is usually part of the answer. A unit that has been moved, tilted or loaded heavily in the door shifts its geometry, and the seal is simply the first place that shows it. What you observe
- The door swings back open unless it is pushed — A levelling or hinge issue rather than a gasket one.
- A paper strip pulls out freely at some point round the door — The single most reliable test there is, and it locates the gap as well as proving it.
- The gasket is torn, hardened or has lost its shape — Old gaskets take a set and no longer spring back against the cabinet.
- NEAR MISS — the seal is fine but the cabinet is warm — That is a cooling fault and the ranked causes there are different.

- Gasket hardened, distorted or torn — A tear anywhere along the run destroys the magnetic pull at that point and lets a steady thread of room air in. - Run a paper strip round the whole door and mark every point where it slides out — First — It finds the gap and tells you whether the problem is local or general, which decides the repair.
- Empty the door racks and close it again, then watch the same paper test — Second — It separates a loaded-door problem from a worn one in a single try.
- Open the door halfway and let go — Third — A door that stays put where you leave it is telling you the cabinet is not sitting the way it should.

- Clean the gasket and the cabinet face it meets — Warm soapy water on both surfaces; sticky residue holds a gasket off more often than people expect.
