- Interlock switches worn out — A marginal switch produces the classic complaint of a door that has to be pressed.

- Door choke or seal face damaged — The perforated screen and the choke around the door edge are what keep energy in the cavity, and damage to either is a containment issue.

- Look closely at the latch hooks and the holes they enter — First — Wear is visible and it is the most common door fault by a wide margin.
- Close the door and look along the gap at the top and the bottom — Second — An uneven gap is visible and it explains an intermittent start fault.
- Close the door slowly and listen for each click in sequence — Third — Missing or late clicks identify the fault from outside the cabinet.
