A leaking Cuisinart freezer is a condensation and drainage problem in most cases. Work out whether the water starts inside the cabinet or outside it, because that single distinction removes most of the possible causes. - NEAR MISS — water only when the ice maker cycles — That is a fill or overflow fault and belongs with the ice maker.
The causes in the order they actually occur here
- Defrost drain blocked — Once blocked, the water backs up and appears on the cabinet floor in waves that follow the defrost cycle. - Seal admitting humid air that condenses — Warm room air entering past a tired gasket gives up its moisture immediately, and on a freezer that means frost that later melts.

- Evaporation tray cracked or out of place — The tray under the machinery collects everything the drain delivers and relies on compressor heat to evaporate it.
- Heavy frost melting faster than the drain can cope — The drain is not blocked so much as overwhelmed, which is why the leak follows a manual defrost.
The order of checks
- Find the drain hole or channel at the base of the rear wall and check it is clear — First — It is the most common cause by a wide margin and it needs nothing but a torch.
- Run the paper test round the opening and look for damp at the failing points — Second — A failed paper test and damp in the same place is a complete diagnosis on its own.
- Put a level on the cabinet in both directions — Third — It is free, it takes a minute and it explains a leak with no other cause.

Call when the drain is clear, the cabinet is level, the seal passes and water still returns. What remains is behind the machinery cover — a cracked tray, a drain line blocked further along, or a drain heater that is no longer working.
