What you actually see
- The display is completely blank but the unit still cools — Cooling continuing tells you the main supply is intact and the fault is on the display side.
- A code or letter combination is showing — A code is a report, not a diagnosis — it names the input the control mistrusts.
- Settings will not hold and revert on their own — Classic sign of an interrupted or unstable supply rather than a control failure.
- NEAR MISS — display and controls fine, cabinet warm — That is a cooling fault; the control is telling you the truth and the problem is elsewhere.

- Supply interruption or an unstable outlet — A brief outage or a loose plug leaves the control in a state it cannot recover from on its own, and a proper power-down clears it. Ranked first here because a light-commercial box runs a far heavier duty cycle than a household unit, so condenser fouling reaches a fault threshold in months rather than years.
- Door switch input stuck — The control uses the door input for lighting, fans and alarms; a stuck switch makes it behave as though the door were permanently open.
