The short answer
A Crosley CDB dishwasher that will not start almost always stops at one of three gates: the door latch, a control lock or delay setting, or the supply — which on a built-in machine is often a hardwired connection rather than a plug. Establishing which of the three, before anything is dismantled, is the whole of the diagnosis on this family.
What you observe
- No panel lights at all — Supply: breaker, wall switch or the junction box connection.
- Panel lights but nothing happens on start — Door latch switch, or a control lock.
- Panel lights and beeps but the cycle never begins — A delay setting, or a cycle already part way through.
- Starts only when the door is pressed firmly — The latch switch is marginal.
- NEAR MISS — starts and then stops part way — That is a fill, drain or heat fault rather than a start fault.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Supply: breaker, wall switch or junction box — First on a built-in machine, because there is no plug to make the fault obvious and a shared circuit trips for reasons that have nothing to do with the dishwasher.
- Door latch switch not making — Second, and the top machine fault: nothing runs until it does.
- Control lock or delay start — Third, and set by accident more often than owners expect.
- Water supply valve closed — Fourth: some machines begin and then stall waiting for water, which reads as a failure to start.
- Thermal fuse or control board — Last, and service work when the checks above are clear.
Check in this order, and why
- Check the breaker and any wall switch first — On a hardwired machine this is the step people skip, and it is free.
- Press the door firmly shut while starting — If the machine then runs, the latch switch is the fault.
- Look for a control lock or a delay on the panel — Both are common and both are cleared from the front.
- Confirm the supply valve under the sink is open — Left until here because a machine that lights and refuses has usually already told you it is not a water problem.

Safety
Switch off the dishwasher at its breaker before removing the kick panel or the pump access; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and the junction box under these machines shares its space with the water. Shut the supply valve under the sink first, expect standing water in the sump, and never bypass the door latch switch to run the machine open.

When to call a technician
Resetting a breaker, clearing a control lock and checking a latch are owner work. Call a technician when the panel stays dark with the breaker on, when the machine runs only with the door held, or when a fuse has blown — a thermal fuse that opens has a reason behind it. Call an electrician for a junction box that is warm or discoloured.
