The short answer
A Cosmo BCD Refrigerator that has started making a noise is usually reporting one of three things: a fan blade touching frost, a compressor or relay clicking as it tries to start, or the cabinet transmitting vibration into whatever it is leaning on. Only the second of those is urgent, and it is the easiest of the three to identify.
What you see on the BCD family
- A rhythmic ticking or scraping from inside the freezer — That is the evaporator fan blade touching frost, and the sound usually changes or stops when the door is opened.
- A click every few minutes from the lower back, then silence — The start relay trying and failing to start the compressor. This is the one noise on the list that needs attention quickly.
- A buzz or hum that has become noticeably louder — Often the condenser fan running against dust, or the whole cabinet resonating because it has shifted on its feet.

Causes, most likely first on the BCD family
- Evaporator fan blade catching frost — Ranked first on the BCD family — it is the most common new noise on the Cosmo BCD refrigerator family and it is diagnosable in seconds by opening the freezer door. Ice builds where it should not and the fan blade clips it once per revolution. The noise is rhythmic, it comes from inside the freezer, and it usually changes the moment the door is opened because the fan stops.

- Condenser fan and a dust-loaded coil — Third — and it pairs with the cooling page: the same dust that makes this noise also makes the cabinet warm. The fan at the lower back runs whenever the compressor does, and dust on the blade or debris in its path makes it whine, buzz or tick.
- Start relay or compressor — Fourth — a clicking relay with a warming cabinet should not be left running for days. A relay that cannot start the compressor clicks every few minutes as the overload cycles. A compressor with worn mounts or internal wear knocks or drones instead.

Check in this order, and why
- 1. Stand still and locate the noise before anything else — Front, inside the freezer, or lower back. Location alone removes most of the list and it costs nothing.
- 2. Open the freezer door while the noise is happening — The evaporator fan stops with the door open on most cabinets, so a noise that vanishes is that fan and a noise that continues is not.
- 3. Lean gently on the cabinet and on the adjacent joinery — If the noise changes or stops, it is resonance rather than a failing part, and levelling the feet is the repair.

When to call a technician
Call when the noise is a click-pause-click from the lower back, especially with a cabinet that is losing temperature, because that is a start relay or a compressor and both are service parts. Call too when a fan noise persists after the frost has thawed, since a fan that has been running against ice often has a worn bearing by then.
