The short answer
A microwave that will not start is usually being refused by its door rather than failing electrically: three interlock switches have to agree before anything runs. Causes, most likely first on the TF models
- Door interlocks not agreeing — First on these models. Several switches have to report closed in the right order, and a door that has dropped on its hinges or a latch with a worn tab stops the machine dead while looking perfectly shut.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and in a microwave that charge is lethal well after the plug is out. Do not open the casing for any reason, and never tape, wedge or otherwise defeat a door interlock to make the machine run: those switches are what stop it operating with the door open. If the door does not close and latch properly, stop using the appliance.

When to call a technician
Call when the outlet is proved, no lock is set and the door latches cleanly and the machine still will not start, because what is left is inside the casing. Call sooner if a latch tab is cracked or the door has dropped, since a door that does not close properly is a safety fault rather than an inconvenience. Call at once if there is any smell of burning when the machine is powered.
