Find the water before the part
A leak on these cabinets is usually cheap to fix and expensive to leave. The defrost drain blocks, water backs up into the liner, and from there it reaches the floor, the cabinetry and eventually the insulation in the shell. The repair is a flush with warm water; the damage, if it runs for months, is not. The MXBC designation spans five model numbers in the table below. Which one you have decides the part number, not the repair — the fault below is the same across the line.
What you actually observe
- Water appears every few hours rather than continuously — Cyclic water is defrost water, which points at the drain and away from any supply connection.
- Wet cardboard or packaging on the lowest shelf — Often the first sign, seen before any free water is visible.
- A trickle down the inside of the back wall — Melt water taking the wrong route because the drain below it is not accepting it.
- Floor wet at one front corner only — Tells you which way the cabinet leans, and levelling is part of the fix.
- NEAR MISS — water only after a power cut — Thawed frost rather than a fault. Dry it, and watch whether it comes back.
Most likely first
- The drain hole at the back of the compartment — Ranked first because it is both the commonest cause and the one an owner can clear. Find it at the base of the rear wall, below the evaporator area.
- Ice over the drain rather than debris in it — Second. A drain that freezes rather than blocks gives the same symptom and needs the cabinet off and empty rather than a poke with a turkey baster.
- Gasket and door alignment — Third. Humid air entering continuously produces condensation faster than the drain can carry it away, so a seal fault presents as a drain fault.
- Tray, connections and the compressor compartment — Last, and the place to look when there is water on the floor and none inside the cabinet at all.
Check in this order, and why that order
- Separate cyclic from continuous — Cyclic water is defrost water. Continuous water on a plumbed model is a supply connection and it does not stop on its own.
- Look inside before you look behind — An ice sheet on the liner floor or water under the crisper settles the question without moving the cabinet at all.
- Defrost fully if the drain is frozen — Unplug, empty, leave the doors open and let it thaw naturally. A frozen drain cleared with force refreezes within days.
- Then call if water persists — A drain that blocks again within weeks, a cracked tray, or a connection at the back are the point at which a technician earns the visit.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Water on the floor and electrical parts at the back of the cabinet are a bad combination, so unplug the unit before mopping underneath or pulling it out. Do not clear a frozen drain with a metal wire or a heat gun: the drain tube is soft plastic and a punctured tube leaks permanently and invisibly.

Where the owner line is on these models
Stop and call where the leak is continuous rather than cyclic on a plumbed model, where the cabinet has water at the back around electrical parts, or where clearing the drain has not held. Everything before that — finding the puddle, emptying the compartment, flushing the drain with warm water, levelling the unit, checking the tray and the gasket — is honest owner work and is exactly what a technician would do first. The five models listed share this diagnosis but not their part numbers, so have the rating plate to hand before the visit is booked.
