What a warm cabinet means on the CCUL line
On the CCUL line a cabinet that stays warm while the unit runs is an airflow problem far more often than a compressor problem. These are tightly packed cabinets whose condenser sits close to the wall, and once the coil or the vent path is blocked the compressor runs continuously without ever pulling the cabinet down. A refrigerator holds food safely at 40 °F (4 °C) or below, so the first job is the food and the second is the fault. The CCUL line covers sixteen model numbers, all listed in the table below. Check the rating plate inside the door before you order a part, because the family name alone will not get you the right one.
What you actually observe
- Everything inside is at room temperature — Complete loss of cooling. Check that the unit is actually running before anything else.
- Unit runs quietly but nothing changes — A compressor can hum without pumping. That is a technician measurement, not an owner one.
- Thermostat turned to the coldest setting with no effect — Useful information: it rules the control out and points at airflow or the sealed system.
- Ice cream soft, drinks not cold, door seal feels fine — A capacity loss rather than a failure — the classic coil-and-clearance picture.

Ranked causes on these models
- Condenser coil and clearance — First on this family. The coil sheds the heat the cabinet takes in, and on compact cabinets it sits where dust and pet hair collect and where the unit gets pushed tight to a wall. A blinded coil produces a permanently running compressor and a warm cabinet.
- Door seal, loading and how often it is opened — Second. A gasket that has hardened, a shelf holding the door a fraction open, or a cabinet packed against its vents all warm the interior without anything having failed.
- Frosted evaporator or a stopped fan — Third. Ice on the evaporator or a fan that has stopped blocks the cold air path, so the cabinet warms while the compressor works harder than ever.
- Sealed system, compressor or start relay — Last, and the only one that is not owner territory. It is also the least common of the four, which is exactly why the order above matters.
Check in this order, and why that order
- Stand in front of it and listen for thirty seconds — Running or not running is the fork in the road, and everything below assumes running.
- Put a hand on the condenser area — Warm means heat is being rejected; cold while the compressor hums means it is not pumping, and that is a technician finding.
- Measure the gap behind and above — Clearance is a specification an owner can restore in a minute, and a recessed installation is the commonest reason a healthy unit behaves badly.
- Empty, defrost, and give it a day — If frost is present, nothing else can be judged until it is gone and the cabinet has had a full day to settle.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Treat a heavy cabinet as a two-person move — sliding one out over a tiled floor on your own is how doors get twisted and feet get broken. A refrigerator holds food safely at 40 °F (4 °C) or below, so deal with the food before the fault, and never use a heat gun or a knife to clear ice from an evaporator.

Where the owner line is on these models
The owner line on these models sits at the back panel. Coil cleaning, clearance, the door seal, the internal vents, the thermostat setting and the load are yours, and between them they explain most warm cabinets. Call when the coil is clean and the cabinet is still warm, when the compressor hums without cooling, when a relay clicks repeatedly, or when the evaporator ices up again within days of being defrosted. Anything involving refrigerant is licensed work, and on a compact cabinet it is also the point at which replacement usually wins on cost.
