What this looks like from the outside
- A cup of water is unchanged after a full cycle — The objective confirmation, and the one to do before spending anything. It is worth confirming twice before you act on it, since one observation can mislead.
- A loud hum with no heating — A high-voltage part failing under load. It needs nothing you do not already own.
- The oven heats, then stops heating part way — Thermal protection operating, which usually means restricted vents. Rule it in or out before moving on, because the next check assumes an answer to this one.
- NEAR MISS: nothing turns on at all — That is a start fault, and the will-not-start page is the right one. Do this before the check below it, because the answer changes what that one means.
Likely causes, ordered
- A failed high-voltage generating component — First because it is overwhelmingly the commonest cause of this exact symptom and because it is the one that ends the owner path. Treat the ordering as a route through the possibilities rather than as a prediction.
- A failed high-voltage diode or capacitor — Second because the presentation is identical from the kitchen and only a technician can tell them apart. Mention it when you book a visit; it changes which parts a technician brings.
- A door interlock reporting incorrectly — Some ovens run their fan and plate but withhold output when a door signal is not right. Treat the ordering as a route through the possibilities rather than as a prediction.
