Start here
On the CHM line a microwave that will not start splits into two very different faults, and the display tells you which one you have. A dead display is a supply fault — outlet, cord or the line fuse behind the cabinet. A lit display that ignores the start pad is almost always the door latch assembly and the interlock switches it operates, not the control board. The CHM designation spans fifteen model numbers in the table below. Which one you have decides the part number, not the repair — the fault below is the same across the line.
What you actually observe
- Start pad ignored, other pads respond normally — Rules out the whole keypad and points squarely at the door.
- Nothing at all, including the interior lamp — Supply side. On these cabinets the interior lamp is the cheapest sign that power is reaching the board.
- Door feels loose or rattles when closed — Worn hinge or latch head; the switch sequence depends on the door sitting square.
- It runs only if you press the door while starting — A confirmed latch fault. Do not keep using it that way.
- NEAR MISS — display lights then blanks when start is pressed — That points at the supply collapsing under load and is a different investigation.
Causes, most likely first on the CHM line
- Interlock switch out of sequence — The first thing a technician checks on any Commercial Chef countertop oven that lights but will not run. The switches are cheap; getting to them is the work.
- Worn latch hooks on the door — Second, and usually the cause of the first. The hooks take the whole force of every close and they are moulded plastic.
- Blown line fuse with a shorted monitor switch — Third. The pair fails together, and fitting a fuse without finding the switch that killed it simply blows the new one.
- Demo mode, keypad, board — The remainder. Demo mode is free to check and should be ruled out before either of the other two is suspected.
Check in this order, and why that order
- Is the display alive? — This single observation splits the fault in two and decides everything after it. Dark means supply; lit means the door.
- Prove the outlet with another appliance — Shared kitchen circuits and switched outlets cost nothing to rule out and explain a great many dead ovens.
- Close the door firmly and try again — If it runs when the door is pressed or slammed, the latch and interlocks are confirmed and no further owner testing is useful.
- Check for a demo or showroom indicator — The owner’s manual for these models gives the key sequence that clears it. It is the only internal cause you can fix yourself.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. On this appliance the cabinet should simply stay on: the high-voltage section inside a microwave remains dangerous after the plug is out, and no start fault is worth opening it for. Never bypass an interlock switch, and never run the oven with the door held or taped closed.

Where the owner line is on these models
If the oven is dead and the outlet is proven good, that is a service call. If the oven lights but ignores start, check the door, the child lock and demo mode, then call. Anything that involves the fuse holder, the switch stack or the board is behind the cabinet, and the cabinet on a microwave stays closed for owners. Where the machine has also tripped a breaker or smells hot, do not restart it while you wait. Whichever of the fifteen models in the table above you have, quote the full number from the rating plate when you call — the family letters alone will not get the right part.
