The quick verdict
A Commercial Care dryer fails in a small number of ways, and airflow is behind more of them than any other single cause: a restricted vent makes a dryer slow, hot, noisy and eventually unsafe. How it presents
- The drum turns but there is no heat at all — A heating-class fault: element, thermal cut-out, or on a gas machine the igniter and valve. Repeat it once if the answer is ambiguous rather than moving on with a maybe.
- Water or damp appearing around the machine — Water around a dryer has a small number of causes and its own page. If this is what you have, you are on the right page; if not, follow the near-miss line.
- The door pops open mid-cycle or will not latch — A catch, a strike or a seal problem, and it is the class that stops cycles without any electrical fault at all. If you can only do one check, make it this one.
- The load comes out damp at the end of a full cycle — Damp laundry after a full programme is the classic presentation of a heating or airflow fault. Note whether it happens every time or only sometimes, because that distinction narrows the list.
- The drum will not turn although the machine runs — A belt or a drive fault, which is a specific and diagnosable finding rather than a mystery. This is the cheapest information available on the machine.
What causes it, in order of likelihood
- Heating faults: element, igniter, valve and cut-outs — Second, and often a consequence of the first: thermal protectors open because airflow failed, and the machine presents as a heating fault. Compare it with how the machine behaved a month ago rather than with how you expect it to behave.
- Mechanical wear: rollers, belt, pulley and bearings — It sits mid-list because it is common on older machines and because the noise gives ample warning. A cause in this position is worth eliminating before you spend anything.
- Drum supports, rollers and belts — The mechanical class, announced by noise long before anything fails outright, which makes it the one worth catching early. It is worth confirming twice before you act on it, since one observation can mislead.
- Installation and venting — It belongs on the list because it explains complaints that survive every other repair. If this is the cause, the evidence for it is usually visible rather than inferred.

What to turn off before you start
Safety
Disconnect the machine from the mains before any part of this, without exception. An isolated appliance can still have charge in it, and that is the reason for the pause. On a gas model, close the appliance shut-off valve before you start, and if you smell gas, leave the building and call the utility from outside. Keep every safety switch in circuit, in the state the factory left it.
The handover point
Stop and call when the picture changes: everything in the air path is owner work, and that is where most of this appliance fails. Where the page stops is where the evidence stops being visible from the outside. Call the same day if the breaker trips when the machine runs, or if the cabinet gives you a tingle when you touch it.
