The short answer
A Commercial Care CED dryer that will not start is an electrical question first, and only later a component one. A dryer that makes a sound and will not tumble is a different case from one that is completely silent. The thermal fuse is the one that turns a heating complaint into a no-start complaint, and it opens because of restricted airflow.
The observable signs on this platform
- Odour from a dead machine — This is the point to stop.
- No response of any kind — Silence points at the circuit being open somewhere, and the checks below run in cost order.
- The catch not engaging — Check the strike and catch for wear or debris.
- It makes a noise and stays still — Turn the drum by hand with the power off — free rotation with no drive suggests the belt.
- NEAR MISS — it begins and quits — Note which it is before troubleshooting.
What it usually turns out to be, in order
- Door switch not confirming — Leave the switch wired as it is — that circuit is a safety device.
- Protection that has tripped permanently — It ranks here rather than lower because it is extremely common on machines with blocked vents.
- Supply interrupted — It ranks top because the fix is not a repair at all when it is the cause.
- The programme selector not making — Last because the cheap causes look identical.
What to check first, second, third
- Close the door firmly and listen for the switch — Leave the switch wired as it is.
- Start at the panel — First because it is free and a partly tripped double breaker looks perfectly normal.
- Listen for a hum, a click, or silence — Write it down before you call — it is the most useful thing you can report.
- Hold the start button a moment longer — A machine that runs while held and stops on release has told you the fault.
- Turn the drum by hand with the machine isolated — A drum that spins with no resistance suggests a broken belt; one that will not move suggests a jam.
Safety first, and it is not optional

Do not run the machine with a panel off. Replace it and clear the vent, in that order of thinking. Unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off.
