Straight answer first
When a Commercial Care CED dryer stops drying, start at the vent rather than at the element. That cut-out is doing its job, and replacing it without clearing the restriction just resets the clock. A standard US household branch circuit is 15 A or 20 A at 120 V, and a large appliance circuit is typically 30 A or higher at 240 V — a dryer that tumbles on half a supply runs cold.
What the owner sees and hears
- It has been worse since the machine was moved — A crushed or lengthened duct changes everything, and the timing names it.
- The cabinet or the load feels unusually hot — Clean the filter and the duct before running it again.
- No flow outdoors while it runs — Lint at the hood is the commonest blockage point.
- A burning smell during the cycle — Stop and isolate the machine: lint plus heat is the fire risk this whole page exists to prevent.
- NEAR MISS — banging rather than a heat problem — Rollers, belts and glides cause noise without touching heat.
Causes, most likely first on the CED line
- Outside hood not opening — Flaps stick with paint, ice, nests or lint, and a closed flap blocks everything upstream.
- Exhaust duct restricted — Ranked above every part because clearing it is what fixes the fault for good.
- The filter passing less air than it appears to — Top of the list and the first thing a technician will look at too.
- A thermal fuse or high-limit thermostat open — It ranks here because it is almost always secondary, not an independent fault.
- Breaker partly tripped — It ranks high on electric models because the symptom — a machine that runs cold — is exactly this, and the fix is outside the appliance.
What to check first, second, third
- Start at the filter, properly — Wash it with hot water and a little detergent, then dry it — brushing alone does not remove film.
- Check the exterior flap opens fully — Strong, warm flow means the path is clear; weak flow with the machine running is your answer.
- Pull the machine out and inspect the duct — Clear the whole length rather than the first foot — the blockage is usually further along.
- Check both halves of the supply — If it trips again, stop and call rather than resetting repeatedly.

Safety
Gas burner faults are a technician job — the igniter, the valve and the supply all belong to a qualified person. Treat a tripped cut-out as evidence, not a fault. Never run the machine with the filter removed.
