The short answer
When a Comfort Time SMCF refrigerator gets loud, sort the normal sounds from the abnormal ones before deciding anything is wrong. These cabinets are light and thin-walled, so the same vibration that a heavy unit absorbs is radiated straight into the room. Some of what you hear is normal: gurgling refrigerant, ticking as plastic expands, and a fan that starts and stops.
What the owner sees and hears
- Sharp clicks from the liner — Thermal movement in the plastic; it follows the cycle rather than running continuously.
- A trickling sound between cycles — That is refrigerant settling and it is entirely normal.
- A loud snap every few minutes, then silence — Note the interval — regular clicking is the classic pattern.
- A rattle from the back that comes and goes — Note whether it runs with the compressor: a cycle-linked rattle is contact noise.

- Press a hand on the rear panel while it runs — If the noise changes when you press, you have found it without any tools.
- Place the noise: front, back, or inside the compartment — Open the door and hold the switch to hear whether the internal fan contributes.

When to call a technician
Noise plus a cabinet that is no longer cooling is the more urgent fault, not a noise call. Ask for the fan and the frost to be looked at together if the blade was touching ice.
