Straight answer first
A noisy Coldspot SMFU refrigerator is usually resonance rather than a machine that is breaking. The compressor sits in a shallow bay, and anything touching that skin becomes a loudspeaker for it. Some of what you hear is normal: gurgling refrigerant, ticking as plastic expands, and a fan that starts and stops.
What you actually observe
- Sharp clicks from the liner — Thermal movement in the plastic; it follows the cycle rather than running continuously.
- A rhythmic scrape in time with the fan — Scraping is mechanical contact — it will not cure itself.
- Clicking with no compressor start — Note the interval — a few minutes between clicks is the classic pattern.
- New sounds since it was relocated — Check the tray, the feet and the clearances — in that order.
- NEAR MISS — loud and warm at the same time — Noise with a warm cabinet is a cooling diagnosis first; the sound is a clue in that investigation.
Ranked causes for these models

- Something resting against it — A cabinet wedged into an alcove shares every vibration with the structure around it.

- Start components buzzing or clicking — Ranked bottom on frequency, but it is the only cause here that can end the machine, so the clicking pattern is worth naming.
Check in this order, and why
- Rock each corner and set the feet — All four feet must bear; a cabinet that moves under your hand is not level.
- Pull the unit out and reseat the drip tray — Do this once the free checks are done — access means moving the cabinet.
- Move everything off and away from the cabinet — Include the neighbouring appliance: contact with another unit counts.
- Test each panel for drumming — Do it with the machine running, since the noise is the test.
Before you open anything
Safety
Do not bend or lever refrigerant tubing to gain clearance: a nicked line ends the machine. Isolate the machine before any cover comes off — stored charge is the hazard in that bay. Get help moving the cabinet rather than walking it on its corners — these units are easy to unbalance.

When this stops being a DIY job
