The short answer
Ice on the Coldspot SCF platform needs two conditions: water arriving, and a compartment cold enough to freeze it — and cold is the weaker of the two on these models. Where a model does have an automatic ice maker, it is a compact module with a fill tube that freezes easily. That is why the checks below start with the cold rather than with the ice maker itself.
What the owner sees and hears
- The bin never catches up — A compartment that has drifted upward still looks frozen and still makes ice — just not enough of it.
- Food in the freezer is not hard — If the food is soft, the ice maker is a bystander — the cooling side is the problem.
- The bin is wedged against the arm — It is the first thing to check because it explains a total stop with no other symptom.
- Melt water collecting under the tray — That is water going where it should not, and it will eventually seize the mechanism.
- NEAR MISS — a puddle outside the unit — Water on the floor is a leak diagnosis even when the ice maker is involved.
Causes, most likely first on the SCF line
- Compartment above ice-making temperature — Ahead of the mechanism on this platform: the cold side is the weaker half, and it fails quietly.
- Air not reaching the ice compartment — It ranks above the mechanism because unpacking the freezer is free and it explains slow ice completely.
- Shut-off arm or sensor reading full — On compact models the bin sits tight against the arm, so it takes very little to hold it up.
- Warm, humid air entering the compartment — Ranked here because it is a paper-strip check and it explains slow ice and frost together.
Check in this order, and why
- Test the door or lid seal on the cold compartment — Check the hinge side as well as the latch side — seals fail locally.
- Check what the freezer section is actually holding — It is first because a warm compartment explains every other symptom.
- Unpack the compartment and look at the air path — On these compartments one badly placed package is enough to starve the tray.
- Check the shut-off arm or sensor position — If the arm is held up by the bin, nothing downstream will ever run.
Before you open anything
Safety
Isolate the machine before your hands go anywhere near the ice maker — a module that decides to run is how fingers get hurt. Warm water and patience clear a frozen fill tube; sharp tools do not. A freezer holds food safely at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below — if the compartment is not holding that, deal with the food before the ice.

If the supply valve needs replacing, that is a job with the water off. The line is the cold side: if the compartment cannot freeze, the ice maker is a symptom.
