A cycle that stalls or restarts is waiting for a condition — a fill, a drain, a lock or a balance it cannot get. On a CBMmart washing machine the stage it stops at is the diagnosis. That puts a drain that does not clear in time at the top of the list here and a door lock dropping out at the bottom.
What you observe
- Cycle time jumps upward mid-programme — Normal: the machine extends stages while it waits for heat or balance.
- The programme ends early with the load soaking — A fault ended it, usually with a code.
- NEAR MISS — nothing at all when start is pressed — That is the no-start page.
The causes, ordered
- A drain that does not clear in time — No stage advances until the drum is empty, so a blocked filter stalls the whole programme. The pump and the drain path are the parts that meet everything that comes off the laundry, so they are the parts that block.
- A load the machine cannot balance — A single heavy item or a tangled load makes the machine retry the spin over and over rather than risk damage. Load habits drive most of the complaints on an imported machine: capacity is honest but it is not generous, and an overloaded drum produces symptoms that read as failures.
- A fill that never reaches level — Half-open taps or blocked inlet screens leave the machine waiting for water it can measure but not get. The supply side is checked in this position because it is easy to prove and it either is or is not the answer.
- A door lock dropping out — A marginal lock breaks the circuit for a moment and the machine pauses or cancels.
Check in this order, and why
- Note the stage and whether there is water in the drum — Water at the stall means drainage; no water means fill, lock or heat.
- Open the door and redistribute the load — If the spin then completes, it was a balance problem all along.
- Check both taps are fully open — A half-open tap slows the fill enough to stall a programme.
What an owner can safely do
- Run a drain-and-spin programme on its own — It isolates the drain and spin systems without waiting through a full cycle.
- Redistribute or split the load and restart — A single heavy item is the commonest reason a spin never completes.
- Power-cycle the machine at the outlet — A few minutes off clears a stuck control state.
- STOP before opening the cabinet to test the lock, heater or motor — All three are metered tests beside mains wiring.

Let a stalled machine drain before opening it, and use the filter hatch rather than the door if it is full. Unplug the machine before opening the cabinet.
When this stops being a home repair
Call when the filter is clean, the taps are open, the load is balanced and the cycle still stalls at the same stage. Call sooner if the machine will not release the door with water inside.
