A gas range is mostly burner hardware and a safety chain. On a panel appliance the caps, the ports and the igniter explain most complaints, and everything past them is licensed work. The list below starts with burner hardware, and every entry names the page that covers it.
What owners actually report
- A burner will not light, or the flame is weak — Refit the cap, clear the ports and dry the igniter before anything else is considered. See: Café Gas Stove: Not Heating. — Slug: caf-gas-stove-heating-failure
- Continual clicking, roaring or popping — Wet electrodes and misplaced caps account for nearly all of it. See: Café Gas Stove: Abnormal Noise or Vibration. — Slug: caf-gas-stove-abnormal-noise
- The flame dies when the knob is released — The flame-supervision device is not being satisfied.
- Yellow or lazy flames — Incomplete combustion: blocked ports, a misplaced cap, or a gas-type mismatch.
- The oven does not heat although the hob works — The oven has its own igniter, safety valve and thermostat, so a working hob says nothing about it.
- A smell of gas — Not a diagnostic question: leave the building and call the gas utility from outside.
- Rattling grates or unstable pans — Grates that are not seated, or an appliance that was never levelled into its opening.
The causes, ordered
- Burner hardware — Caps, heads and ports. Designed to be removed and cleaned, and responsible for most lighting and flame-quality complaints. Burner hardware is checked first because it is designed to come apart and it is where most of these complaints live.
- Ignition — Electrodes, the spark module and the knob switches. A wet electrode after a spill or a clean is a routine finding. It ranks here because it explains the symptom fully but needs a little more looking than the ones above it.
- Flame supervision and the gas train — Thermocouples, safety valves and regulators. All licensed work, and all of it matters more than its frequency suggests.
Where the faults sit on this machine — No component-share denominator exists for this brand and appliance, so these rows carry no percentages — they are ordered by what a technician meets in the field. — Ordered by field frequency; no share figure exists for this brand.
General guidance| Component | How it presents | Owner-reachable |
|---|---|---|
| Burner cap and head | Will not light, uneven ring, popping at shut-off | Yes — lift, clean, refit squarely |
| Burner ports | Partial flame ring, weak burner | Yes — soft brush only, never a pin |
| Igniter electrode | Clicking without lighting | Partly — clean and dry it |
| Spark module and switches | Continual clicking, no spark at all | No — mains-voltage work |
| Thermocouple / flame supervision | Flame dies when the knob is released | No — licensed work |
| Gas valve and regulator | Weak flames on every burner | No — licensed work |
When to call a technician
Cleaning and refitting burner caps, heads and ports is owner work and it resolves most complaints. Everything else — electrodes beyond cleaning, spark modules, thermocouples, valves, regulators and any mixture adjustment — is licensed work. If you smell gas, leave the building and call the gas utility or the emergency number from outside.

What is deliberately not here
Generalized information: this covers Café gas range units as a class rather than any one family or model. No part numbers and no service sequences appear here — the diagnostic work belongs on the per-problem pages linked beneath this one.
