The short answer
On a Cafe integrated dishwasher, poor cleaning is nearly always the filter, the spray arms or how the machine is loaded. Pull the filter and clear the arm jets first. Detergent and water temperature come next. A wash pump fault is the last thing to suspect and the only one that is not an owner check.
What you observe
- Gritty deposits left on the dishes — A clogged filter recirculating the last load's debris.
- The top rack clean and the bottom dirty, or the reverse — A spray arm blocked or obstructed.
- A white film on glassware — Detergent, water hardness or rinse aid rather than a fault.
- Items directly behind a tall pan left untouched — Loading, which is easy to prove and free to fix.
- NEAR MISS - baked-on food surviving a short eco cycle — A programme mismatch, not a failure.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- A clogged filter — First on any dishwasher. The filter traps food so it is not sprayed back onto the dishes, and once it is loaded the machine is washing with dirty water for the whole cycle.
- Blocked or obstructed spray arms — Second. Small jets block with seeds, labels and scale, and a tall item stopping an arm turning leaves a whole zone unwashed while everything else comes out clean.
- Loading that blocks the spray — Third. Nested bowls and pans laid flat shield everything behind them, which looks exactly like a machine that has lost pressure.
- Detergent, rinse aid or water temperature — Fourth. Old detergent, an empty rinse aid reservoir or a long cold pipe run all reduce cleaning without anything being broken.
- A wash pump or heater fault — Last. Real, but every cause above imitates it, and all of them are free to check.

- Spin each spray arm by hand — It should turn freely with every jet clear.
- Note which zone fails — One zone points at an arm; everywhere points at the pump or the filter.
- Check the detergent and rinse aid — Both are cheap to rule out and often the whole answer.

Before you open anything
Safety
Switch the dishwasher off at its breaker before reaching into the sump or removing a panel - a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Let the machine cool before putting a hand inside after a hot cycle. Never mix dishwasher detergent with bleach or other cleaners, and take care with the filter area, where broken glass and sharp bone fragments collect out of sight.
When to call a technician
Call when the filter is clean, both spray arms turn freely with clear jets, the loading is sensible and dishes still come out dirty across the whole machine. That points at the wash pump or the heater. Mention that the machine is fully integrated when you book, because removing a custom panel is part of the job and affects the time allowed.
