The short answer
When ice production drops on the Caf L family, the cause is more often upstream of the appliance than inside it — supply pressure, a shutoff that was never fully opened, or a filter past its life. What you can observe on these models
- The mould holds water that never releases — The fill worked and the harvest did not. Look at freezer temperature and at the module, in that order.
- Cubes have fused into a single block in the bin — Slow production plus repeated part-thaws welds the bin together. It is usually a symptom of a warm freezer, not of the ice maker.
- The ice maker runs but the dispenser delivers nothing — That splits the fault into the delivery chute and auger rather than the maker itself.
- NEAR MISS — no ice and no cooling either — If the freezer is not holding temperature, the ice maker is a symptom. Work the cooling page first; the ice returns when the cold does.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Bail arm raised or the ice maker switched off — Ranked first: it is the single most common reason a healthy ice maker makes nothing at all.
- Filter past its life or an aftermarket cartridge that does not seat — Second: flow drops gradually with a tired cartridge and instantly with one that does not match the head, and both show as hollow cubes first.
- Frozen fill tube or an overfilled mould — Third because it is the failure that looks like a dead module from the front of the cabinet.
- Freezer running warmer than the harvest point — Fourth: check the freezer against 0 °F (−18 °C) before blaming the ice maker; slow cycles are the first sign of a cabinet losing its grip.
- Inlet valve or module failure — Last — a valve or module is a legitimate failure, just not the first one to assume.
Check in this order, and why
- Read the freezer temperature against 0 °F (−18 °C) — Harvest waits on the mould reaching its release point, so a warm freezer stalls a perfectly good ice maker.
- Date the water filter — A cartridge past its life, or an aftermarket one that does not seat in this head, drops flow before it drops taste.
- Trace the supply line from the shutoff to the unit — Look for a crushed line behind the cabinet and a valve that is only part open; both are common after a move.
Before you open anything
Safety
Power off at the plug or the breaker before any panel comes off; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Close the water shutoff before disturbing the supply line or the filter head, and have a towel ready — the line stays under pressure until it is bled. Never run the ice maker with a hand near the ejector.

When to call a technician
